Onanda Park

Located along County Road 16, Onanda Park is the largest park in the Town of Canandaigua, offering visitors a beautiful setting for outdoor recreation in every season. The park spans both a 7-acre lakeside area along Canandaigua Lake and a 73-acre upland hillside, creating a diverse landscape of waterfront views and forested trails. The lakeside portion is a popular gathering place during the warmer months, featuring a swimming beach, bath house, playgrounds, pavilions, and picnic areas. Families and groups often gather here to enjoy fishing, swimming, and lakeside picnics, making it a favorite summer destination for locals and visitors alike. Above the shoreline, the upland section includes seven of the park’s fifteen cabins, as well as scenic pavilions with beautiful views overlooking Canandaigua Lake. A two-mile hiking trail winds through the wooded hillside, giving visitors a chance to explore natural surroundings. Onanda Park also transforms with the seasons. During winter, the uplands become a hub for sledding, snowshoeing, and other cold-weather activities for those eager to embrace the Finger Lakes outdoors year-round. Originally established as a YWCA Camp just before the turn of the 20th century, the property later became a public park through a cooperative effort between New York State and the Town of Canandaigua. Purchased in 1989, the park officially opened to the public in 1990, preserving the area as a welcoming space for recreation and community gatherings. Today, Onanda Park features 15 cabins, 5 pavilions, and 3 lodges, making it a versatile destination for day visits, group events, and overnight stays.
