Greater Oneonta Historical Society

The Greater Oneonta Historical Society, founded in 1939 as the Upper Susquehanna Historical Society, is a non-profit membership organization with a 15-member Board. As one of the largest local history groups in Central New York, GOHS works to preserve the heritage of the city and town of Oneonta. GOHS' collections of thousands of items include photographs, postcards, portraits, clothing, ephemera, and other historical objects about life in the Upper Susquehanna region. These arts, artifacts, and archives are housed at GOHS' Oneonta History Center at 183 Main Street, in the oldest brick building in the Oneonta Downtown Historic District. The History Center also houses permanent and temporary local history exhibitions and displays, and resource library, and a gift shop.
