Hyde Hall Talks: Peter John Brownlee
Samuel F. B. Morse’s Gallery of the Louvre (1831–33) is one of the most significant works of early 19th-century American art. George Clarke was the original owner of Gallery of the Louvre. It hung in Hyde Hall on the Drawing Room wall until George Clarke Jr. sold it in the 1840s.In this talk, the author explores Morse’s vision, technique, and the painting’s evolving legacy.
