52 Weeks of Firsts

Mark America’s 250th birthday with 52 Weeks of Firsts, a yearlong, citywide celebration of Philadelphia’s role as a birthplace of American innovation. Produced by the Philadelphia Historic District 250th Committee, the series highlights historic “firsts” that occurred in Philadelphia—many in the very neighborhoods where they happened. Free Saturday Firstivals take place every Saturday in 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. across more than a dozen neighborhoods. Each event features a themed opening ceremony, storytelling by Once Upon A Nation historians, family-friendly activities, music, giveaways, selfie stations, and a #1 Sculpture commemorating that week’s featured First. The celebration extends beyond Saturdays with the 52 Weeks of Firsts podcast, releasing new episodes every Tuesday throughout 2026. Visitors can also toast Philly’s legacy with Philly First, a special 250th anniversary beer from Visit Philadelphia and Victory Brewing Company, available beginning February 15, 2026.
