These Truths are Not Self-Evident: Stories of the Revolution in the Perkiomen Region

A special interactive exhibit for the 250th anniversary of the founding of the U.S. opens at the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center opens on April 18 & 19 and runs through March 27, 2027. These Truths are not Self-Evident: Stories of the Revolution in the Perkiomen Region, using a “graphic novel” style of artwork, presents stories that have been passed down from the Revolution. Historical and anecdotal evidence, along with an interactive device, help visitors weigh fact and fiction. A special-made large map allows adults and children to place the stories in the region. To celebrate the opening programs are planned through the weekend. Join us for opening activities! The grand-opening ribbon cutting will be at 1:30pm on Sunday, April 19. Family activities will run 1 to 4pm; enjoy patriotic crafts, music, and refreshments. Keith Brintzenhoff will play at 2:00, and Executive Director Beth Twiss Houting will guide exhibit walks at 1:30 and 3:00. The activities are all free, and no registration is required. The day prior, Saturday, April 18, from 10:00 to 11:30am, adults and students in grade 8 and above can join in “Puzzling History.” This hands-on workshop provides a chance for participants to interact with historic documents to learn “the truth” of historic happenings, just like exhibit curators do. Each small group will uncover one of three stories to share with the whole group. The program is free, but one must register at schwenkfelder.org/calendar and click on date or call 215-679-3103. The exhibit and programs are made possible in part through the support of The Gladys Krieble Delmas Foundation of New York and the Institute of Museum & Library Services, (Grant IGSM-257792-OMS-25).
